The Crucial P3 Plus is a budget Gen4 NVMe drive built on Micron 176-layer QLC NAND with a Phison E21T DRAMless controller. Sequential reads hit 5,000 MB/s on the 1TB and 2TB models, which is respectable for the price tier, but the QLC NAND and lack of DRAM define its real-world performance envelope.

QLC Trade-offs

QLC NAND stores four bits per cell, which means higher density and lower cost, but write speeds and endurance take a hit compared to TLC drives. The 500GB model writes at just 1,900 MB/s, and even the larger capacities top out around 4,100-4,200 MB/s writes. Once the SLC cache is exhausted under sustained writes, performance drops significantly. For burst workloads (OS boot, game loads, application launches) this rarely matters.
