Crucial T710 - M.2 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD - 1TB

The Crucial T710 is Crucial's latest Gen5 flagship, and it represents a platform shift. Where the T700 and T705 both used Phison's E26 controller, the T710 moves to the Silicon Motion SM2508 paired with Micron's 276-layer G9 TLC NAND and LPDDR4 DRAM cache. Sequential reads hit 14,900 MB/s (1TB) and writes reach 13,800 MB/s (2TB/4TB). Random I/O jumps to 2.2M/2.3M IOPS on the larger capacities, up from the T705's 1.55M/1.8M.

New Platform

The SM2508 controller is a quad-core ARM Cortex-R8 chip built on TSMC 6nm. Combined with the G9 NAND's 3,600 MT/s bus speed (up from 2,400 MT/s on the T705), the T710 delivers meaningfully higher random I/O while drawing roughly 25% less power (8.25W vs 11.25W). That power reduction matters in desktops (less heat) and makes the T710 viable for high-end laptops.

No Heatsink

This is the bare variant. Gen5 thermals remain a concern, though the SM2508 and G9 NAND run cooler than the E26 platform. Sustained sequential writes will still generate enough heat to throttle without cooling. A motherboard heatsink or aftermarket solution is required.

Best for: Workstation and enthusiast desktop builds with Gen5 M.2 slots and existing motherboard cooling. The best Gen5 drive Crucial makes, and the random I/O numbers compete with the Samsung 9100 PRO at lower power draw.

Avoid if: You don't have M.2 cooling on your motherboard. Get the heatsink variant. Also overkill if your workload is primarily sequential reads (game loads, media playback), where the T705 performs nearly as well.
