Crucial T705 - M.2 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD - 4TB

The Crucial T705 is the second generation of Crucial's flagship Gen5 NVMe line, building on the T700 with higher speeds across the board. It pairs the Phison E26 controller with Micron 232-layer TLC NAND and a dedicated DRAM cache, pushing sequential reads to 14,500 MB/s and writes to 12,700 MB/s on the 2TB.

Speed Gains Over T700

The T705 squeezes roughly 15-17% more sequential throughput from the same Phison E26 platform through firmware optimization and tighter NAND binning. The 2TB model is the sweet spot: 14,500/12,700 MB/s reads/writes. The 4TB trades a small amount of read speed (14,100 MB/s) for the same write performance, while the 1TB drops to 13,600/10,200 MB/s. Random I/O is strong at up to 1,550K/1,800K IOPS on the 2TB.

Thermal Considerations

This is the bare (no heatsink) variant. Gen5 drives produce significant heat under load, and the T705 is no exception. You need either a motherboard M.2 heatsink or an aftermarket solution. Without cooling, sustained writes will throttle.

Best for: Desktop workstations and gaming rigs with Gen5 M.2 slots that already have motherboard heatsinks. Content creators who move large files regularly will appreciate the write speed bump over the T700.

Avoid if: Your system lacks M.2 cooling. Get the heatsink variant instead. Or if your platform is Gen4-only, where none of this extra bandwidth is accessible.
