WD Black SN770M - M.2 2230 PCIe Gen4 NVMe SSD - 500GB

The WD Black SN770M is WD's compact M.2 2230 NVMe drive, designed for handheld gaming devices and ultrabooks that require the shorter form factor. Built on Kioxia 112-layer BiCS5 TLC NAND with sequential reads up to 5,150 MB/s. Available in 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB.

M.2 2230 Form Factor

At 30mm x 22mm, the SN770M fits devices that cannot accommodate standard 2280 drives. Primary use cases include the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, Surface Pro, and select ultrabook designs. It will also work in full-size M.2 2280 slots with an adapter.

DRAM-less Design

Like the full-size SN770 and SN7100, the SN770M uses HMB instead of onboard DRAM, with nCache 4.0 SLC caching for write bursts.

Performance

The 1TB and 2TB models deliver 5,150 MB/s sequential read; the 500GB drops to 5,000 MB/s. Write speeds range from 4,000 MB/s (500GB) to 4,900 MB/s (1TB). Performance is comparable to the full-size SN770 despite the smaller package.

Best for: Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and other handheld gaming devices; ultrabooks and mini PCs with M.2 2230 slots.

Avoid if: You have a standard M.2 2280 slot available, as full-size drives offer better value per TB.
