The Crucial T500 with heatsink is the same drive as the standard T500 (Micron 232-layer TLC, Phison E25 controller, LPDDR4 DRAM cache) with an aluminum heatsink pre-installed. The heatsink variant is specifically designed for PS5 compatibility and fits the console's M.2 bay dimensions.

When the Heatsink Matters

Gen4 drives generally run cooler than Gen5, so the T500 doesn't have the same thermal urgency as the T700 or T705. The heatsink helps during sustained transfers in poorly ventilated spaces, but the main reason to buy this variant over the bare drive is PS5 installation. It fits correctly and eliminates the need to source a third-party heatsink.

Identical to the standard T500: up to 7,400/7,000 MB/s sequential read/write, DRAM-backed random I/O, and endurance from 300 TBW (500GB) to 2,400 TBW (4TB). Five-year warranty.

Best for: PS5 storage expansion. Also useful in desktop builds where the M.2 slot lacks a motherboard heatsink and sits near hot components.

Avoid if: Your motherboard already has an M.2 heatsink. The pre-installed heatsink may not fit under it, and you'd be paying a premium for something you can't use. Get the bare T500 instead.
