The Crucial P310 in 2230 form factor brings the same DRAMless Gen4 internals as the standard P310 into a shorter 22mm x 30mm footprint. It exists because handheld PCs, small form factor laptops, and some ultrabooks require 2230 drives, and the options at that form factor have historically been limited.

Form Factor

The Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and similar handheld gaming PCs ship with 2230 M.2 drives. Upgrading storage in these devices requires matching that form factor exactly. The P310 2230 is one of the more affordable Gen4 options available for these use cases.

Performance

Sequential specs carry over from the standard P310: 7100 MB/s read and 6000 MB/s write. Whether a handheld device can fully use Gen4 bandwidth depends on its platform, but having the headroom doesn't hurt. DRAMless HMB operation applies here too.

Capacities

Only 500GB and 1TB are available. The 2230 form factor has physical constraints that limit NAND density, and higher capacities at this size remain uncommon across the market. A 5-year warranty covers both options.

Limitations

The 1TB ceiling may be limiting for users who want to load large game libraries onto a handheld. The 2230 market is narrower than 2280, so the P310 doesn't have as many direct competitors to compare against.

Best for: Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and other handheld PCs requiring 2230 drives, as well as ultrabooks or SFF systems that don't accept 2280 form factor.

Avoid if: Your device takes 2280 drives, the standard P310 offers the same internals at more capacity options.
