About Crucial P510 - M.2 PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD
The Crucial P510 is a budget Gen5 NVMe drive that brings Gen5 sequential speeds (11,000/9,500 MB/s read/write on the 1TB) without the power consumption and heat problems that plagued first-gen Gen5 drives. It uses the Phison E31T controller with Micron's latest 276-layer G9 TLC NAND, and it does it all without DRAM.
DRAMless Gen5
The P510 relies on Host Memory Buffer instead of a dedicated DRAM cache. For the target audience (laptop users, budget desktop builds, anyone who wants Gen5 speeds without paying Gen5 prices) this is a reasonable tradeoff. Random I/O under heavy queue depth won't match DRAM-equipped Gen5 drives, but everyday responsiveness is indistinguishable.
Power Efficiency
This is the P510's real selling point. It draws roughly 25% less power than prior Gen5 SSDs like the T700, which makes it a genuine option for laptops where battery life matters. The Phison E31T is a 4-channel controller (vs the E26's 8 channels), which is how it achieves the power savings.
Endurance
600 TBW (1TB) and 1,200 TBW (2TB). Strong numbers for a DRAMless drive, matching the T700 tier for tier. Five-year warranty. Only available in 1TB and 2TB.
Best for: Laptops and budget builds that want Gen5 sequential speeds with minimal power draw. The best value Gen5 drive if you don't need 4TB or DRAM-backed random I/O.
Avoid if: You need maximum random I/O performance under sustained mixed workloads. The T700 or T710 with DRAM will serve better. Or if your platform is Gen4-only, where you're paying for Gen5 capability you can't use.
Crucial P510 1TB NVMe SSD
The Crucial P510 is Crucial's first PCIe Gen5 NVMe SSD, delivering sequential reads up to 11,000 MB/s and writes up to 9,500 MB/s with the Phison PS5031-E31T controller. It uses a DRAM-less HMB design with Micron G9 TLC NAND, keeping costs down while still reaching Gen5 speeds.
Endurance & Warranty
Rated for 600 TBW endurance with a 5-year warranty. Random performance reaches 1,500K IOPS for both reads and writes.
