Synology HAT5300 - 3.5" Enterprise SATA HDD - 4TB
About Synology Enterprise - 3.5" SATA HDD
Synology's Enterprise SATA Series is a 24/7 enterprise hard drive line designed for high-volume workloads in DSM-managed NAS, IP SAN, and rack systems. The lineup spans three sub-series (HAT5300, HAT5310, HAT5320) under a single Enterprise datasheet, with capacities running from 4TB to 24TB. All capacities use CMR recording, a 6 Gb/s SATA interface, 512e sector formatting, persistent write cache to limit data loss on sudden power events, and ship with a 5-year limited warranty.
Specs by Capacity
| Capacity | MPN | Cache | MTBF | Sustained Throughput | Drive Design |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4TB | HAT5320-4T | 512MB | 2.0M hr | ~281 MB/s | Air |
| 8TB | HAT5320-8T | 512MB | 2.0M hr | ~281 MB/s | Helium |
| 12TB | HAT5300-12T | 256MB | 2.5M hr | ~254 MB/s | Helium |
| 16TB | HAT5310-16T | 512MB | 2.5M hr | ~281 MB/s | Helium |
| 20TB | HAT5310-20T | 512MB | 2.5M hr | ~281 MB/s | Helium |
| 24TB | HAT5320-24T | 1GB | 2.5M hr | ~309 MB/s | Helium |
All capacities run at 7,200 RPM and carry the same 550TB/year workload rating.
Reliability and Performance
Synology validates each drive on Plus, Value, FS, HD, SA, UC, and XS series systems with over 500,000 hours of testing, and the firmware integrates with DSM so RAID rebuilds run faster than against generic SATA drives (Synology reports up to 35% faster sequential read in their internal tests). Persistent write cache reduces the chance of corruption on sudden power loss, and DSM-integrated firmware updates land in a single click without taking the drive offline.
Sub-Series Differences
The HAT5300 sub-series (12TB, plus legacy 4TB and 16TB SKUs) is the original generation, with smaller cache on the 12TB. The HAT5310 sub-series replaces HAT5300-16T at the 16TB and 20TB tier. The HAT5320 sub-series fills the 4TB and 8TB entries (which are also where the 2.0M hour MTBF lives) and the 24TB top tier. Synology sells the entire range under one Enterprise SATA umbrella; the prefix differences are largely capacity-tier and generation indicators.
Best for: Multi-tenant Synology storage systems, RAID arrays where rebuild time is operationally significant, and any deployment running heavy 24/7 multi-user workloads.
Avoid if: Your chassis is SAS-only (use the Enterprise SAS series), or your workload fits comfortably under 180TB/year (the Plus Series costs less and fits home/small office use).
