The Crucial T700 with heatsink is the same Phison E26-based Gen5 drive as the bare T700, bundled with an aluminum heatsink designed for PS5 compatibility and desktop builds where the M.2 slot lacks its own cooling. Underneath sits Micron 232-layer TLC NAND and a dedicated DRAM cache.

Performance

Sequential speeds hit 12,400/11,800 MB/s read/write on the 2TB and 4TB models. The 1TB drops to 11,700/9,500 MB/s writes due to fewer NAND dies for parallelism. These were flagship Gen5 numbers when the T700 launched, though the T705 and T710 have since surpassed them.

Why the Heatsink

Gen5 drives run hot. The Phison E26 controller under sustained load can throttle without adequate cooling, and the T700 is no exception. The included heatsink keeps temperatures in check during extended file transfers and fits the PS5's M.2 bay dimensions. If your motherboard already has an M.2 heatsink, the bare T700 is the better buy.

Best for: PS5 storage upgrades and desktop Gen5 builds where the M.2 slot has no built-in heatsink. A good entry point into Gen5 if you want DRAM-backed performance without paying T705 or T710 prices.

Avoid if: Your motherboard has its own M.2 heatsink (the pre-installed one may conflict). Or if you're buying new today and want top Gen5 speeds, the T705 is faster for a modest premium.
